ATP is the universal energy molecule in all living cells (bacteria, fungi, plants, animals). When luciferase reacts with ATP, it produces measurable light, allowing rapid assessment of microbial activity.
Readings are expressed in RLU (Relative Light Units), where higher values indicate higher microbial presence.
